The purpose of this testing is to aid in the evaluation of the wastewater treatment system.
Testing will be conducted in the following areas: Oyster Bay Rd., Stillwater Dr., Bonita Ln., River Reach Dr. W., Nikida Ct., Tasha Terrace, River Reach Dr., Stevens Ct.,
Hickory Cir., River Reach Ct., Village Dr., Meadow Brook South, Windsong South, Windsong North, Jasmine South, Jasmine North, Morningstar South, Morningstar North, and on Mt Pleasant Rd. from Pickett Way to River Reach Dr.
Over the past few years, the wastewater collection system serving the Town of Swansboro has shown signs of increasing problems with infiltration and inflow, known as I&I. I&I problems occur when individual lines that connect to larger collector lines begin to allow increasing volumes of storm water and groundwater into the collection system. As an initial step in locating specific points of infiltration, ONWASA will do smoke testing to determine entry points most in need of attention. The smoke is non-toxic, noninvasive of homes and businesses, and is confined to the collection system.
ONWASA recommends that these customers run water in every sink for a few minutes the mornings of Thursday, October 2nd , and Friday, October 3rd, to ensure drain traps are full so that no smoke will enter your home. If smoke exits through the roof vent, everything is working properly. ONWASA employees will be on-site during testing to answer questions.
