ONWASA has scheduled smoke
testing for the sewer lines in Richlands on Thursday, October 5th,
and on Friday, October 6th between the hours of 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM
on both days. The purpose of this smoke testing
is to locate any breaks or defects in the wastewater collections system so they
can be addressed and fixed properly. The
smoke used which will be injected into the sewer lines is non-toxic.
Testing will be conducted in
the following areas of Richlands: Wiggs
St., Kinston Hwy., Bostic Rd., Trott Rd., Richlands Hwy., Rand St., W. Foy St.,
Dreadnaught Rd., Williams St. Ext., Williams St., Hancock Ave., W. Hargett St.,
Railroad St., S. Church St., N. Church St., W. Franck St., S. Academy St., New
St., Elizabeth St., S. Wilmington St., N. Wilmington St., E. Foy St., E. Franck
St., Nicholson St., N. Nicholson St., N. Onslow, S. Onslow, Trenton St., S.
Cox, East Point St., Winstead Loop, Henderson St., Fairview Ct., Pete Jones
Dr., Cooper St., Mills St., and the
subdivisions of Heritage Village, Sylvester Heights, Trifield Estates, and
Maidstone Park.
ONWASA recommends customers
in the areas of smoke testing run water in every bath and sink drain for at
least 1 minute on both mornings that the smoke testing is to take place. This will ensure the drain traps are full so
that no smoke will enter the home. If
smoke exits through the roof vent, everything is working properly.
It
will be normal to see smoke coming from rooftop vent stacks, manholes or sewer
openings. If you see smoke in your home
from this testing, you will need to contact a plumber as that will be an
indication of a sewer line leak in your home.
ONWASA personnel will be on-site in the areas of smoke testing to
address any concerns.
