On March 31st North Carolina Executive Order 124 was signed. The Executive Order mirrors actions ONWASA took earlier on March 15th. We were pleased to be one of the state’s first utilities to help our customers during the COVID-19 crisis.
Here is important information you should know about Executive Order 124:
First, customer account disconnections for nonpayment are suspended, likely for at least 60 days.
Second, ONWASA will not impose new penalties for late payments or collect on penalties that were imposed on residential accounts as of March 31, 2020 for at least 60 days. Normal usage fees will still apply for utility services you receive.
Third, customers with unpaid balances at the end of this grace period will be allowed a six (6) month, interest-free time to pay off any balances with no late fees charged on arrearages.
Fourth, since ONWASA took early action on March 15th to help customers, we will follow our normal procedures in reconnecting customers whose accounts were disconnected prior to March 15th.
Let me assure you that your drinking water is safe. ONWASA utility workers are on the job 24-hours a day and are taking extreme precautions to protect themselves and you from the effect of COVID-19. As perhaps never before, we are all in this together.
