Employee Benefits

Health Insurance
  • ONWASA participates in a group plan offered through the NC League of Municipalities administered by MedCost Benefit Services.
  • ONWASA pays 100% of employee premium for the Standard Plan coverage for eligible full-time employees.  Buy-Up-Plan available with a $30.00 monthly employee cost.
  • Employees may elect to cover spouse and/or children at their expense.
  • Standard Plan calendar year deductible is $2,000/$4,000.
  • Buy-Up-Plan calendar year deductible is $1,000/$2,000.
  Coverage begins on the 1st of the month following the employee's first 30 days of employment.

Dental Insurance
  • Provided by AlwaysCare Employee Benefits Dental Insurance.
  • ONWASA pays 100% of employee premium for the coverage for eligible full-time employees.
  • Employees may elect to cover spouse and/or children at their own expense.
  • No waiting period for covered services.
  • Routine exams (2 per 12 months).
  • maximum benefit $1,500 per year.
  Coverage begins on the 1st of the month following the employee's first 30 days of employment.

Vision Insurance
  • Offered through Community Eye Care.
  • ONWASA pays 100% of employee premium for the coverage for eligible full-time employees. 
  • Employees may elect to cover spouse and/or children at their own expense.
  • An eye exam once a year ($10 co-pay)
  • A $150 allowance for eyewear annually ($20 co-pay)
  Coverage begins on the 1st of the month following the employee's first 30 days of employment.

Life Insurance
  •  Provided by Lincoln National Insurance.
  • ONWASA pays 100% of the employee's premium for a $25,000 basic life insurance policy for eligible full-time employees.
  • Employees may elect to cover spouse and/or children at their own expense.
  Coverage begins on the 1st of the month following the employee's first 30 days of employment.

Retirement
  • ONWASA participates in the North Carolina Local Government Employees' Retirement System.
  • Mandatory 6% pre-tax deduction contributed by the employee each pay period.  ONWASA's contribution is determined by the Retirement System.
  • Benefits are based on various factors including age, years of service, compensation, etc.

Supplemental Retirement

  • Employees may participate in the NC 401(k) Plan offered through Prudential.
  • ONWASA will match the employee contribution up to 3%.
  • The Plan has a variety of fund options to choose from based on your individual needs.

Paid Leave
  • 9 hours to 15 hours of vacation/annual leave is earned per month depending on length of service.
  • 8 hours of sick leave is earned per month.
  • Other types of leave include: Maternity/Paternity Leave and Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA).
  • Paid holidays include: New Year's Day, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving Day (2 days) and Christmas (3 days).

Longevity Pay
ONWASA values employee service and recognizes years of service with annual longevity pay:
  • 1 year  = $25.00
  • 2 years = $50.00
  • 3 years = $75.00
  • 4 years = $100.00
  • 5 years = 1.5% of annual salary

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • The EAP is a free confidential program available 24/7 to help employees and their immediate families resolve job-related, personal, and family problems.

It is the goal of ONWASA to promote healthy and fun activities that foster incentive for participation and encourage all employees to take an active role in their personal health and wellness.

It is the mission of the ONWASA Wellness Program to maintain an environment that addresses the mental and physical wellbeing of employees and their family members through information, communication, education, evaluation and activities that promote a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

The Board of Directors are responsible for establishing and approving ONWASA's pay plan and benefits for each fiscal year and may change policies and benefits as necessary to meet budgetary requirements.
