Dixon Water Treatment Plant

Overview
The Dixon Water Treatment Plant is capable of producing four million gallons of water a day from eight wells located in the Castle Hayne Aquifer. Treatment processes include greensand filtration for the removal of iron and manganese, ion exchange for the removal of calcium and magnesium, and carbon filtration for the removal of organic compounds.

Chlorine is used for disinfectant purposes, fluoride is added for the prevention of tooth decay, and orthophosphate is added as a corrosion inhibitor. The plant has six million gallons of storage in the two ground storage tanks.

The Dixon Water Treatment Plant provides water to Dixon, Holly Ridge, Sneads Ferry, Topsail Island and parts of the Southwest area.
